The Port Klang ICM site is comprised of two districts: Klang and Kuala Langat, covering an area of 1,480 sq. km., and with population of 839,000 people.  Klang, located 32 km south-west of Kuala Lumpur is the Royal Town of the State of Selangor. One of the main gateways and oldest towns in Malaysia, it is host to the country’s largest port, which is ranked 14th among the top container ports in the world. Kuala Langat is located south of Klang, and adjacent to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

  • Centralized Sewage Treatment Facility: Klang, Malaysia

    US$ 5 million
     

  • Integrated Solid Waste Management System: State of Selangor

    Total estimated project cost: US$ 18.5 million

 

Key policies:

The Klang River Clean-up Project, with a total investment of US$100.8 million, is a priority project of the Malaysian government. Corporate responsibility is also highly encouraged, and incentives are available to encourage the setting up of facilities for cleaner production and waste management, including:

  • Partial or total relief of income tax for limited period of time
  • Exemption from import duties, sales tax and excise duties
  • Special tax allowances for management of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

The Selangor State Investment Centre has been established and corporatized to provide information and advisory services on investment matters.
