THE
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
12-14 December 2006
0800-1900 Daily
Various Rooms, People’s Hall
The International Conference will feature over thirty workshops
and seminars co-convened by numerous national, regional and
international organizations/United Nations agencies. The
sessions will discuss timely issues and coastal and
ocean-related developments and trends, organized under seven
interconnected focus areas, in line with the overall theme of
the Congress -- “One Ocean, One People, One Vision”:
The Conference themes are designed to complement the Congress
objectives by stressing the significance of coastal communities
as the targets for sustainable coastal development, emphasizing
the need to secure the oceans for safer shipping and cleaner
seas, exploring appropriate financial mechanisms for local
governments to develop environmental improvement
infrastructures, promoting the development and use of
management-based scientific and technological research and
products, and underlining the need to codify integrated
management approaches and ensure international standards in the
production and harvesting of marine products (a new management
paradigm to certify sustainability).
The highlight of the Conference will be the Presentation of
Outcomes and Recommendations to the Ministers and other
dignitaries in attendance.
