	Frequently Asked Questions What is the East Asian Seas Congress? Every three years, the GEF/UNDP/IMO PEMSEA conducts the East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress, a pioneering region-wide platform for capacity-building, strategic action and cooperation for the sustainable management and development for the region’s seas. The congress brings together government ministers and high-level officials; heads of regional, international and non-governmental organizations; experts; and private sector/civil society representatives for comprehensive forums, plenary sessions, workshops and seminars. The major activities are: International Conference (12-14 December) featuring more than 30 workshops and seminars co-convened with more than 40 co-convening organizations; Ministerial Forum (14-15 December) participated by ocean and environment-related ministers from fourteen (14) countries; Inaugural Meeting of the EAS Partnership Council (16 December); Side Events such as Exhibits (12-15 December), Youth Forum (11-15 December), Field Trips (15 December) and various meetings/training sessions. GEF/UNDP/IMO PEMSEA is organizing the Congress together with the State Oceanic Administration of PR China, the Hainan Provincial / Haikou City government, and over forty (40) national, regional and international organizations.
