of Outcomes and Closing Ceremony

The successful EAS Congress 2006 fostered partnerships in the regional level and provided a venue for knowledge exchange and collaboration.
Dr. Li Haiqing, State Oceanic Administration of China, hosted the Closing Ceremony of the International Conference. Dr. Delfin Ganapin, UNDP Small Grants Programme, reported on the outcomes of Theme 1 - Communities in Sustainable Development. Dr. Biliana Cicin-Sain, University of Delaware, USA, reported on the outcomes of the Theme 2 - Securing the Oceans." Ms. Diane James, Victorian Coastal Council, Australia, reported on the "Ecosystem-Based Management" theme outcome. Mr. Jean-Claude Sainlos, IMO, reported on the outcomes of the "Safer Shipping and Cleaner Oceans" theme. Dr. Hugh Kirkman, Marine Science and Ecology, Australia, presented for the “Certifying Sustainability" theme. Dr. Cielito Habito, Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines, reported on the "Local Government Financing for Water, Sewage and Sanitation" theme outcomes. Dr. Russell Reichelt, Reef and Rainforest Research Centre, Australia, presented on "Applying Management-Related Science and Technology" theme outcomes. Cris Evert Lato, Youth Leaders Forum participant from the Philippines, imparted the message on behalf of East Asian youth. Dr. Arthur Hanson, International Institute for Sustainable Development, summarized the outcomes of the International Conference and declared that the EAS Congress 2006 was a success. Hon. Sun Zhihui, Administrator of the State Oceanic Administration of China, passes the Congress flag to Hon. Angelo Reyes, Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Philippines, where the EAS Congress 2009 will be held. Dr. Alfred Duda, GEF, declared the International Conference closed.
