The ICM Dialogues were organized in seven language groups: Bahasa, Chinese, Khmer, Korean, Filipino, Thai and Vietnamese. The groups shared experiences in ICM implementation at the local level and explored long-term strategies for strengthening information exchange and capacity building.
Dr. Jihyun Lee, PEMSEA, explained the objectives, mechanics and expected outputs of the ICM Dialogue.
The Thai group was represented by officers and staff from the Chonburi ICM site and representatives from Coastal Habitats and Resources Management (CHARM).
The ICM Dialogue served as venue for participants from DPR Korea and RO Korea to discuss issues on how to strengthen strategies in capacity building with particular focus on integrated management of river basins, estuaries and coastal seas.
The Bahasa group focused on key concerns on capacity-building requirements as well as sustainable tourism development.
The Khmer group gave particular emphasis on national and local level coordination in coastal and marine management.
The Vietnamese group discussed capacity-building requirements and roles in the replication and scaling up of ICM practices.
The Filipino group discussed the implementation of Executive Order 533, which adopts ICM as a national strategy to ensure sustainable coastal and marine development, and shared experiences in ICM project implementation.
