THEME 3: ECOSYSTEM-BASED MANAGEMENT: FROM RIVER BASINS TO
COASTAL SEAS |
Dr. Noel Eusebio Padilla, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippines, discussed the importance of resource valuation of coastal ecosystems with Dr. John Pernetta, UNEP/GEF SCS Project, serving as chair. Dr. Chen Shang, State Oceanic Administration, China, presented the assessment framework of Bohai Sea ecological assets with co-chairs Dr. Chul Hwan-Koh, Seoul University, RO Korea and Mr. David Nemazie, University of Maryland, USA. Mr. Keu Moua, Mekong River Commission Secretariat, Lao PDR, discussed the transboundary cooperation for sustainable development of the Lower Mekong River. Ms. Heidi Schuttenberg, James Cook University, Australia, presented the reef manager's guide to coral bleaching. Theme panel discussion on ecosystem-based management co-chaired by Ms. Diane James, Victoria Coastal Council, Australia and Dr. Chul Hwan-Koh, Seoul University, RO Korea. Dr. Yasushi Hosokawa, Port and Airport Research Institute, Japan, shared the experiences of the Tokyo Bay rehabilitation project. Panel discussion on capacity development in ecosystem-based management of interrelated river basins, estuaries and coastal seas. Open forum after the workshop keynote of Dr. John Pernetta on mangrove rehabilitation and management. Also shown are co-chairs, Dr. Sanit Aksornkoae and Dr. Shigeyuki Baba.
